So happy Christmas, I love you baby

Obscure title courtesy of Shane McGowan, baby courtesy of Gonal F.
(Fairytale in New York is part of our pre-baby Christmas night ritual. Don't know if we're gonna be able to swing it this year, but we'll try- some of the people we only see once a year at the annual drinkfest. Shouls be fun)

And we lived to tell about it

The trip was great, really. It was a LOT of driving. Crazy driving, the kind where you're just waiting to get somewhere, anywhere, down the road. I-10 is boring that way. I remembered why we always fly to NOLA- even pre-kiddo, and that's because the drive is tedious. But we got there and back, and the time we were in town was fabulous. There's this restaurant that we accidentally found a couple of years ago- blessedly made it though the storm, and is still thriving. They have the best beef tataki, hands down. Went there. Stuffed our faces full of sushi and the aforementioned beef tataki and some udon soup and oh, was it good. Tried to go to the City Park lighted walking tour thingamajig, but the line- no lie, 3 blocks long to get in. We skipped it. Did the obligatory Cafe du Monde thing. Got some stuff at the JazzFest/WWOZ sale. Bought a Christmas ornament at an artists' co-op store. Ate a Lucky Dog.
Noel charmed everyone he passed. I know people love babies, but geez, this kid gets stopped and smiled at and commented over all the damn time. Oddly, no one ever notices the DS. I wonder when that will start becoming more obvious to people... and what their reactions will be.
Anyway, I promised an update on the trip, and here it is. I'd do it again, no problem.

As for post-storm issues? Don't know. Picked up a copy of Sunday's Times-Picayune. Looks like politics. The French Quarter looks good. Get out of the tourist spots, though, and there are still trailers, still debris, still flattened buildings. There's still a lot to be done.

This is the only picture of Noel from this trip- he's checking out the literature from the Krishnas, while relaxing in our delightfully appointed room at the St. Ann/Marie Antoinette.

because we're still fun, dammit

We decided this morning to drive to New Orleans next weekend for a radio station's garage sale. With the sprout. We'll be in town for a little more than 24 hours, on the road for 20 (round trip). Wish us luck. Because obviously we are missing some sort of parent common sense gene.
On the advice of our pedi, we've introduced solid food- my little peanut fell off the bottom of the typical growth chart. He's still on the DS specific one, though. More calories anyway, said pedi, so off we went. Peas were first (picture soon). Since then we discovered that Noel love love loves him some avocado. Carrots were a whole lot of 'eh'.
Last week he gave me a long string of da-da-da, but hasn't repeated it.

I know, I know. One of these days I'll have time to actually write something with substance. Today isn't it.
